  • Small Phillips Screwdriver
Before Proceeding Make sure you have an up-to-date backup of your data.
  • Perform upgrade using proper anti-static precautions
  • Discharge static electricity before beginning
  • Work on a static free surface
Part One: Removing the Original Memory
The first step is to close the MacBook Pro and flip it over.
Step 1a
To access the inside of the MacBook Pro there are 10 Phillips screws to remove from the bottom cover.

Start with the 3 screws in the upper right which are longer then the other screws.
Step 3a
Then remove the shorter Phillips screw in the upper left.
Step 4
Finally, remove the remaining 6 screws which are also shorter.
Step 5
a. The bottom cover can now be removed. Starting near the hinge edge, simply lift up on the bottom cover and set it aside.
b. The memory is located near the middle of the system.

a. To begin removing the original memory, simply push outward on the two retaining arms until the top module pops up.
b. You can then slide the module straight out of the slot.

Repeat the process for the lower module.

Part Two: Installing the New Memory
a. To install the new memory, first line up the notch on one of the memory modules with the pin in the memory slot. Then slide the module into the lower slot until it is fully seated.
b. Finally, push down on the module until it clicks into place.

With the lower memory module installed, repeat the process with the top module.

Replace the bottom cover and gently push down on the center to engage the internal clips.
Step 11
Using a Phillips screwdriver, secure the bottom cover starting with the 3 longer screws in the upper right.
Step 12
Then, the shorter Phillips screw in the upper left.
Step 13a
Now replace the remaining 6 Phillips screws. Please note that these 6 screws go in at a slight angle.

Once the bottom cover is secure, the MacBook Pro can be flipped over and powered on.
The installation is now complete!
