I'm an international school teacher as well as an Apple Distinguished Educator. It's important to me to have a resource other than an Apple Genius Bar as there currently isn't an Apple store in my country of service. So this is more about the service than the product.
A great team there at MacSales. Trust them. Use them. Enjoy the benefits.
I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from Apple 13" MacBook Air (2013) 1.7GHz Dual Core i7 - Used, Very Good condition.Upon opening the package I encountered 2 surprises.
Firstly, the condition of the 'used' MacBook Air (MBA) was indistinguishable from new. There were no scratches or imperfections anywhere on the outside of the aluminium case or on the screen or keyboard. In order that this excellent condition is maintained, I also ordered (not from MacSales) an attractive 2-part, hardshell case with a picture of the universe on the cover. It simply clips over the body of the MBA.
Secondly, the MBA was not a 'mid 2013' build but rather an 'early 2014' build. I gather the 6,2 model was continued on into 'early 2015'. I was very pleased to receive a MBA nearly 1 year younger than what I had expected.
Though not a surprise in itself, I discovered the battery had an 85% charge remaining and the MBA could be used immediately. In theory, a new, fully-charged battery should give about 12 hours use before recharging becomes necessary. I was informed the battery on my MBA had about 70% of its capacity remaining before the battery itself needs replacing. This is a reasonable expectation for a laptop between 2 - 3 years old, if used regularly.
I own 4 MacBook Pros and the MBA makes it 5 laptops, excluding my old PowerBook. Between them they typically give between 4 - 6 hours use on a full charge. A MBA can, in theory, just about double the usage time on a full charge up to around 12 hours for a new battery. It was this particular 'all day' feature that made me decide to buy a MBA.
My MBA has a maximum of 512MB of SSD, which is a special option, 256MB is more usual. It has 8GB of RAM, which I regard as the minimum amount required for excellent performance. It has an SD slot for extra storage or for use by camera buffs. It has Wi-Fi but no Ethernet port. It has a couple USB 3.0 ports and a Thunderbolt port. There is no DVD/CD drive but my other MacBook Pros have this feature, if required.
The MBA is not that different in weight to my iPad but the latter has the advantage of smaller size.
My MBA has OS X 10.9.5 installed, which I will update to Sierra some time in the future. I am currently evaluating Sierra on a 15" MacBook Pro. This update has not gone smoothly so I will delay updating my other MacBook Pros till later.
I live in the UK where a different keyboard layout is preferred to the US keyboard found on my MBA. This is not a problem once the key combination for the '£' sign is established. This is the main difference between the 2 types of keyboard.
I have installed Dropbox, PopChar, PasswordWallet and TextExpander onto the MBA in the passed 30 hours and I have successfully accessed the Internet from various locations around where I live without any real problem. I have also synchronised particular files on my iPad and 15" MacBook Pro with my MBA, a necessary task to ensure continuity with whichever device I intend to use. All of this work was accomplished fairly easily and the MBA has never let me down.
The clarity of the display is well up to the standard I have come to expect from Apple. I do not require the ultimate in pixel resolution.
I suppose I should address my final comments to OWC/MacSales from whom I have ordered before. I have found them fast, courteous, helpful and above all cheaper than most UK competitors.
