Rating: 3/5 Screen Damage is Not “Excellent Condition”; Partial Refund Appreciated April 11, 2023 When buying a 27” iMac, the screen is the most important part to be in “excellent condition”, especially when the machine is advertised as such. This unit came with minor damage: LCD panel blemish (probably caused during service work, possibly by a harsh cleaner) in the lower left corner, and a small scratch in the exterior glass, near the center. Exterior dings and marks aren’t functional problems; screen damage IS a functional problem. The better news is that, once I sent photos and a request for a partial refund to make the cost more in line with the actual condition of the machine, I feel that OWC did an acceptable job of addressing the issue (I did NOT want to deal with shipping a return, more delays on having a newer machine, etc., so I chose to just keep the machine as is). However, I do want to indicate three stars for this purchase experience due to the machine not being in advertised condition, and also the long wait period from customer service (managers?) in answering my request for a partial refund. The customer service people I interacted with were polite and I have NO complaints with them. I normally have no issues with OWC. This is my only imperfect, non-5-star experience so far, in years of purchases. I’m not put off, and I do plan to continue purchasing products from OWC at this point. The 2017 5K iMac itself is an excellent upgrade for me from my 2011 iMac. I’m actually able to play quite a few games I didn’t think I would be able to play (Bootcamp Windows 10) on this hardware. The retina resolution is amazing, and my photography looks so much better on this machine than my older one. I’m no fan of all-in-one machines, but I needed SOMETHING new, after all this time, OWC has reasonable used options, and the hardware upgrades between 2011 & 2017 models are impressive (if only Apple would stop breaking the OS).
