- Disc read/write capabilities vary depending on installed drive.
- Compatible with 12.7mm slot-loading SATA optical drives, but it is designed with a tray-loading drive in mind. If you install a slot-loading drive, such as an Apple SuperDrive from a 2009-2010 Mac mini or 2009-2011 iMac, the unit will look "naked" due to the lack of a front bezel, but will function correctly.
- Connecting the OWC Slim with USB Type-C systems will require additional steps. Please review "OWC Slim: Connecting with USB Type-C Systems" for instructions.
- Apple's DVD Player application only works with an internal optical drive or the Apple's external SuperDrive. Downloading a free copy of VLC Player is recommended to play DVDs.

Powers on, then dies
Plugged in both USB power cables, drive powered up and I put in a DVD-R to test. Drive spun up, then spun down and power light died. Unplugged, replugged everything but unit won't power on and appears dead; Tested the provided cable on a different bus-powered drive and that still worked — so it's not the power cable. Didn't have a 5v power supply handy to double-check on the drive itself. Basically DOA.

Worked twice
The drive worked just fine...twice. Put in storage for a few months, got it out and it had trouble mounting BluRay discs, then had trouble reading them, now doesn't power up at all. Tried several computers and OS's. It's dead.

Nice kit, but needs front bezel
Nice price, easy install, works great. Wasn't the drive I saw the picture of when ordering. This one didn't have a front bezel. Emailed support and was told no bezel available. Support nice but didn't fix my problem. Have used OWC for years and still like the company, the products and service.
I would recommend this product to a friend!
