Q:
How can I tell if my Mac Pro qualifies?
A:
All 2010/2012 "Nehalem" and 2010/2012 'Westmere' Mac Pros are eligible as long as the processor tray is in original condition, fully functional with no damage. To verify if you have one of these machines, you can check the model identifier. Qualified machines will display "MacPro5,1." For assistance in checking your model identifier, please visit:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/turnkey/MacPro/2010_Xeon_Processor.
Please note, OWC does not accept or work on Mac Pros where the firmware has been flashed from MacPro4,1 to MacPro5,1.
Q:
Is this Upgrade Program available to anyone?
A:
Yes, but please note additional shipping charges will apply for upgrades
shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and international locations. You can view
estimated shipping costs with your checkout cart.
Q:
Should I send in my whole computer?
A:
No. You only need to send in the processor tray with all components intact. Only processor trays in original, unaltered condition will be considered for the Upgrade Program.
Q:
Do I have to keep the memory installed onto the processor tray?
A:
No, OWC does not require that the memory remain installed. It is the only component on the processor
tray that is considered user replaceable and can be removed without jeopardizing the eligibility to
participate in the Upgrade Program.
Q:
What if I want to do the upgrade work myself? Does OWC sell just the processors?
A:
OWC does sell Intel processors, but highly recommends professional installation. Due to
the nature of the upgrade, OWC does not provide support for this user-installed upgrade. Please
see product description and specific warranty listing for more information.
Q:
What if my processor is dead? Can I send in the processor tray and get a working unit?
A:
If your processor tray, processor and heat sink are not in original, fully functional condition, please contact a support representative to discuss options.
Q:
Can I place my order over the phone?
A:
Due to the nature of the upgrade and OWC's desire to make sure there are no misunderstandings, you will need to order online.
Q:
Can I have my memory upgraded at the same time?
A:
Yes. Please note that only memory ordered as part of the OWC Turnkey Xeon Processor Upgrade Program for 2010/2012 'Nehalem' Mac Pro and 2010/2012 'Westmere' Mac Pro Models will be installed. Memory ordered at another time or added separately to the cart will not be installed.
Q:
Does my original memory qualify for rebate if removed?
A:
As long as fully functional, yes. For your reference, OWC posts all current rebates
here. Please note these are subject to change. Actual amount will be based on the rate posted the day the memory is received.
Q:
Can I upgrade from a single processor to a dual processor?
Q:
If I upgrade from a single to a dual processor, will I be able to install more memory?
A:
Yes, single processor units have four slots and can support a maximum of 32GB of RAM, dual processor units have eight and doubles the memory capacity to 64GB.
Q:
What happens to my single processor tray?
A:
In order to extend the best possible prices, OWC will retain the original processor tray as its property.
Q:
How do I send in my processor tray?
A:
When you place your order, a specifically designed box will be sent to you. Please remove and pack your processor tray in the manner laid out in the included printed material.
Q:
How do I ship the box with the processor tray to you?
A:
After sealing the box, use the included shipping label.
Q:
How long will the upgrade process take?
A:
OWC will ship the upgraded processor tray within 3-5 business days. Shipped time will vary depending upon geographic location and shipping methods chosen.
Q:
What if I change my mind?
A:
If you cancel prior to your order being invoiced, there is no cancelation fee. If the order has been invoiced, there will be a 5% cancelation fee plus any applicable shipping costs. Please note that the order is invoiced prior to OWC receiving your processor tray in order to stage all the necessary components, which allows for the fastest turnaround.
Q:
Can the upgrade be reversed?
A:
As long as the upgraded processor tray has not been tampered with or damaged, you can choose
to revert your processor within 30 days from invoice date. There will be a 20% reversal fee, which
includes the labor to do the reversal and ground shipping of the reverted unit back to you. There will be no warranty provided on the reverted processor.
Q:
What kind of warranty is included with the OWC Turnkey Xeon Processor Upgrade Program for 2010/2012 "Nehalem" Mac Pro and 2010/2012 "Westmere" Mac Pro Models?
Q:
Does this program void my included or extended manufacturer warranty?
A:
Nothing being performed should void your warranty entirely. However, OWC cannot guarantee the actions of
the original manufacturer. OWC encourages consumers to familiarize themselves with their consumer rights
per US law and regulation. The Federal Trade Commission has very specific consumer protection laws, as outlined by the FTC's Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975.
Q:
What if I have a problem with the upgrade? Can I take it to any repair shop?
A:
All warranties are void if the upgraded OWC-Installed processor tray is opened by anyone other than an OWC
Certified Technician. OWC is not responsible for any components removed or rendered inoperable by any other
technician. To insure the best service on your upgrade, please contact OWC should any issue arise.
Q:
Who is responsible for the shipping on a return?
A:
For customers within the 48 contiguous United States, OWC will cover ground shipping to and from
our facility. For customers outside of the contiguous United States or for customers needing expedited shipping, prevailing shipping rates apply.
Q:
What if OWC determines that the cause of the issue is not a warrantable issue?
A:
Should it be determined that there is no actual issue or the issue is the result of something not
covered by warranty, a fee of $149 will be assessed to cover the bench time and any standard freight costs.
