Other World Computing announced today that its Mercury Aura Pro Express 6G SSD was named a finalist in the Consumer Storage Device category of the Storage Visions 2012 Visionary Products Awards program. The awards program, being held January 8, 2012, at the 11th annual Storage Visions Conference at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, recognizes companies advancing the state of the art in storage technologies utilized in consumer electronics, the media and entertainment industries, and visionary products for the digital content value chain.
OWC – The Industry’s Only MacBook Air Performance Upgrade Source
Since its introduction of the Mercury Aura Pro Express 3G SSD at the 2011 CES show, OWC remains the only aftermarket performance upgrade source for the 2010-2011 Apple MacBook Air. Owners of 2011 MacBook Air models can use the Aura Pro Express 6G model, available in 120GB and 240GB capacities, to take advantage of the built-in 6Gb/s SATA data bus for peak, sustained data rates over 500MB/s, versus the factory installed SSDs, which are limited by SATA Revision 2.0 (3Gb/s) capability.
2010-2011 MacBook Air owners can also choose from Mercury Aura Pro Express 3G SSD models available in capacities up to 480GB (8x more capacity than factory options) that deliver up to 68 percent faster performance than the factory SSD in real world use.
Bus Powered Enclosures Re-task Factory SSD As External Drive
After upgrading to the higher capacity and higher performance of a Mercury Aura Pro Express SSD, 2010-2011 MacBook Air owners can select from the OWC Mercury On-The-Go or OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini bus powered enclosure solutions to reuse the factory Flash SSD as a portable external drive.
Winner of Numerous Awards
In addition to being a finalist in the Storage Visions 2012 Visionary Products Awards program, the Mercury Aura Pro Express has received numerous awards since it was introduced last January, including being named a “Stevies Finalist” at the American Business Awards, Macworld Best of Show, MacLife Best Mac Hardware, Notebooks.com Best of Macworld, and StorageReview.com Editor’s Choice.
“We are honored that the Mercury Aura Pro Express 6G was selected as a finalist in this year’s Visionary Products Awards program,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing. “Besides our Mercury SSDs being the only performance upgrade for the MacBook Air, our 6G SSD models enable 2011 MacBook Air owners to take advantage of the built-in 6Gb/s bus and experience what well known tech review site Anandtech.com calls ‘staggering’ performance.”
