If you’re the proud owner of an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, have an iPad power adapter, and hate long charging times, then you’re in luck.
Included with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is a 5W/1A charger. But as OWC Jamie points out, Apple gave the new iPhones the ability to charge even faster via a 10W/2A or a 12W/2.4A iPad charger. So if you’re looking for the best way to give your iPhone 6 a quick charge, simply use your iPad charger and cut the time in half!
If you don’t have an iPad but still want the adapter for faster charges, OWC has a great price on Genuine Apple AC to USB Power 12w Chargers and extra Lightning cables to go along with it so you’re never left without power for your device.
It should be noted that charging your iPhone 6 with the iPad charger is completely safe and will not damage your iPhone, its battery or the iPad charger.
Another tip for even faster charging: put your iPhone/iPad in Airplane mode. You won’t be able to receive or make phone calls, but the iPhone and iPad will charge much more quickly.
As I and I’M many others wonder does this appliy to older models? The iPhone 5 for example?
Hi Robert, while you can safely use the iPad power adapter with the iPhone 5, it will draw only 5W. Only the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will draw 12W.
