Developers heading to San Francisco for Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) have another destination to go to first: the App Store, where they can download the updated version of the WWDC app.
Sporting a cool purple icon this year, the WWDC app performs its usual task of providing attendees with a schedule of all of the sessions to be held at the event June 8 – 12, 2015, as well as maps showing the location of conference venues at Moscone West.
Probably the biggest change to the app this year is the addition of an Apple Watch companion app (see images above). The wrist-borne app provides schedule information at a glance, with notifications of what’s going to happen next in session tracks and labs.
Those who are unable to attend the popular developer event can use the full iOS app to stream live video or watch sessions from previous conferences. A geofencing capability built into the app works with iBeacons to let attendees know when they’ve arrived at a venue, although Apple warns that use of this feature can “decrease battery life”. As always, the app is free and available to anyone with a compatible iOS device.
