OWC today introduced class-leading 10, 20, 30, and 40TB SSD models for ThunderBay 4 mini RAID. The new high-capacity SSD configurations are powered by the revolutionary SoftRAID engine, which delivers powerful disk-health monitoring, rapid RAID re-builds, and outstanding performance, with transfer speeds up to 1,314MB/s via Thunderbolt 2 connection — all in a compact aluminum enclosure.
For creative professionals who need extreme performance, but are limited by existing 2TB and 4TB SSD offerings, ThunderBay 4 mini now offers the highest capacity and fastest SSD configurations in its class, with up to 40 TB of high-performance storage to support and accelerate cutting-edge video production workflows.
Powered by the Revolutionary SoftRAID Engine
OWC unlocks the incredible performance and flexibility of ThunderBay 4 mini with an enterprise-class software RAID engine. SoftRAID for ThunderBay supports RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, and 1+0, giving users the flexibility to create multiple arrays to suit the specific demands of their workflow. Users will also benefit from always-on real-time disk-health monitoring via the SoftRAID application, or email notifications when working remotely.
And unlike traditional software RAID solutions, SoftRAID’s revolutionary volume optimization allows users to quickly configure their ThunderBay 4 mini for specific workflows. Using these workflow-specific preset configurations, users can experience the absolute best performance whether recording audio, editing 4K video, or creating a multimedia server.
Faster Reads. Faster Rebuilds.
ThunderBay 4 mini RAID with SSDs are configured in RAID 4 for optimal performance. This provides the same level of data redundancy and fault-tolerance as RAID 5, but offers a 25% boost in read speeds for SSDs. The SoftRAID engine enhances overall performance of the ThunderBay 4 mini, including RAID rebuild times up to 75% faster than hardware RAID.
Professional Performance. Unprecedented Capacity.
Thousands of creative professionals use the ThunderBay 4 mini with SSDs everyday to create their most compelling stories. Now, they can do so with incredible new capacities normally reserved for disk-based desktop storage solutions. ThunderBay 4 mini accelerates video production workflows that include multiple streams of 4K video, audio plug-ins, and large RAW photo libraries. With two Thunderbolt 2 ports, ThunderBay 4 mini supports daisy-chaining additional Thunderbolt devices or displays.
“ThunderBay 4 mini has accelerated UHD, 3D, and VR production workflows around the world with our 4TB SSD configurations,” said Larry O’Connor, CEO, OWC. “We’re thrilled to offer a tenfold increase in SSD capacity with these new high-capacity solutions up to 40TB, empowering producers to take their creativity even further.”

Looking forward to Thunderbolt 3.
I’m a bit confused here. This blog is for the 2.5″ bay edition of the TB4 enclosure, yet you list it with 40 TB capacity. I don’t recall there being any 10 TB 2.5″ drives around, let alone SSDs and I certainly can’t find any on your site.
Am I missing something?
Hi, Squishy. For this OWC ThunderBay 4 mini solution, we have partnered with SageMicro® to use high-capacity SageMicro Black Series Solid State Drives.
Ah, OK. Hopefully they live up to the standards OWC has for its products. You’re in uncharted waters here on this one. :)
