Kinda Bummed

Purchased this computer because it was supposed to be in “Mint” condition… found out the internal microphone is faulty. Even with the system mic input level cranked all the way up, it doesn’t pickup up very well at all. Using the Zoom app, people tell me they can barely hear me. If I plug in a USB microphone… that works fine in Zoom. The volume during calls is much louder. I shouldn’t have to do this with a “Mint” condition machine, especially paying top dollar for it.

Disappointing “Condition”

My purchase was described as Very Good condition. When it arrived, there was a large abrasion on the front bezel of the case. It’s very noticeable and very disappointing, and I don’t think this item should’ve qualified as Very Good condition. Had I known beforehand, I would have chosen a more highly rated unit. Never Again

This has been the worst purchase experience I have ever had and I will never purchase another computer from OWC. Received both computers promptly plus 5 sets of screen adhesive tape. The plan was to open both machines and swap out hard drives from 2 Older iMAC's and then give the older iMAC's to other family members. The first problem arose when the screen adhesive tape failed on 3 of the 4 machines worked on. I called OWC and about the problem because the screen on one of the new computers Cracked when it fell off. OWC confirmed that they have had numerous complaints about the adhesive tape failures. OCC wanted multiple pictures of the units so i took picture s of everything and sent them. I was then told that I would have to ship both machines back for further inspection. Since the shipping costs to send both back was roughly the same cost of a new screen, I decided to just buy a new display from e-bay and remount. So OWC made it very hard for me to seek remediation. three weeks later, one of the iMAC's has failed and will not boot. The test codes indicate that the GPU is not functioning or there is a problem with the logic board. Once again I called customer service and they indicated that I am just outside the 3 month warranty and most likely since opened the machine, the warranty if in force would be void. I am thoroughly disgusted with the excuses. All I know is that I paid $4,500 for 2 new computers and have now spent a total of $5,500 including a new screen and logic board for a computer that is only 3 months old. If I were the wiser going into this transaction I would have just gone to Apple and purchased 2 new computers. I am waiting for a used logic board to arrive and have no guarantee that it will even work. A new logic board would cost more than $750 dollars and is too expensive so I purchased a less expensive board that has not been tested. If it fails to correct the problem, I will consider small claims court in order to get my money back. This has been the worst purchase experience I have ever had, and I am seething. I was totally please with the packaging of my iMac order. The shipping box was very strong and the iMac was well padded for protection. The overall condition was as described, excellent. it could have passed for new! The operation was as I expected, just like a new iMac. You couldn't tell it was a refurbished model.

CUSTOMER SERVICE SAVES THE DAY

THE FIRST IMAC WE RECEIVED WAS DELIVERED WITH A DEAD SOUND CARD. IT WAS A GIFT FOR MY PARTNER SO I WORKED WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE TO GET A REPLACEMENT SHIPPED. NOW THE SECOND UNIT TURNS OUT TO ALSO HAVE HARDWARE ISSUES, AND CANNOT BE UPGRADED PAST BIG SUR DUE TO THE HARDWARE HAVING BEEN ALTERED. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT THIS WAS ONCE A BASE CONFIGURATION IMAC THAT THEY REPLACED THE BASE PROCESSOR, THE MAIN LOGIC BOARD, THE FUSION DRIVE, AND THE 1TB HDD WITH THE 18TB HDD WE ORDERED. SINCE SO MUCH WAS CHANGED THE SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW FOR ANY SOFTWARE UPDATE BEYOND BIG SUR. SO I THOUGHT I SPENT $3200 AND WE HAD A MACHINE THAT CAN NEVER BE UPDATED. WE HAVE BEEN LONG TIME OWC CUSTOMERS (SINCE 2011) BUT WE THOUGHT WE WOULD NEVER BUY A USED MAC FROM THEM. WE TRIED WORKING WITH TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND THEY COULD NOT HELP. SO I TOOK IT TO APPLE AND THAT WAS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME EITHER. SINCE THE COMPUTER WAS OUT OF WARRANTY ALL THAT THEY CAN DO WAS ORDER THE NEW PARTS BASED ON THE SERIAL NUMBER. AFTER REACHING OUT TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AGAIN AND EXPLAINING MY SITUATION THEY SAID THEY WOULD ALLOW ME TO RETURN THE MACHINE FOR A REFUND. SO AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF FRUSTRATION AND PAIN OWC/MACSALES MADE MY SITUATION RIGHT AND REFUNDED MY PURCHASE. I CAN NOW BUY ANOTHER IMAC THAT CAN BE UPGRADED.
