Full product and ordering information for OWC Memory, internal drive upgrades up to 1.0TB, internal OWC Mercury SSD upgrades up to 480GB, and other accessories for all Mac minis from 2006 up to and including the new 2011 models is available.

“We’re very pleased to immediately offer new mini owners memory upgrades with dramatic savings versus factory options,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing. “We’re also looking forward in the near future to continuing our streak of providing memory upgrades for these new minis that offer up to double the factory maximum RAM.”

OWC – The Trusted Name in Mac Memory

OWC memory upgrades are available from 16MB to 96GB for nearly every current and past Apple notebook and desktop computer manufactured during the past twenty years. By maintaining an active state-of-the-art test lab, OWC ensures its memory upgrades offer the highest product quality and reliability and backs them with a Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty.

OWC’s independent memory benchmarks testing on a wide variety of Mac computers consistently demonstrates that having more memory provides higher real-world performance. OWC memory performance gains are even more apparent when using memory intensive applications, such as audio/video, photo, 3D modeling, and other applications, where OWC memory upgrades offer the best performance for the investment.

  • Are the hard-drives OK to replace? Or are they like the 2011 iMacs and have funny temperature sensor stuff and replacing them messes up the fans?

  • Can’t wait to hear the results on an SSD install and 16Gb of RAM!

I plan on upgrading the SSD and RAM for sure, but I suppose I’ll have to wait before purchasing – could be the difference between picking up 8GB or 16GB of RAM….

    GO Mini!

    • Benchmarking will be started soon, hang tight and we should have results up next week sometime.

  • I look forward to OWC engineers creating instructions on adding a SECOND hard drive to the 2011 Mac mini.

If the space is there, why not make use of it. :-)

  • Will you guys offer a add-on second hard drive with bracket and cable for those new Minis which have only 1 500 GB hard drive?

  • So 16GB (2x8GB) RAM won’t work in the new Minis?

So you’ve verified that putting a OWC SSD in the Mini will work fine? Is it as difficult to install as in the 2010 Mini? Are the SATA connectors better than in the 2010 Mini?

If you get a single drive 2011 Mini can you put two drives in it?

    • Gotta wait for all the news Matt….just saying for now we have 4GB and 8GB RAM options…more news about 16GB, SSD install, two drives, etc. all coming. Just keep coming back to the blog to read the actual confirmations!

      • Thanks. Just keen to know what the potential future upgrades are before purchasing a 2011 Mini (if any). I’ll keep coming back to look at the blog.

Now that Apple’s removed the optical drive (a real shame. I would have liked them to have added a blu-ray optical drive but that was never going to happen. They remove the optical drive yet keep the HDMI port? Weird. A HTPC user like me is going to want both an optical drive and a HDMI port. Now I have to choose between sticking with a mini with an optical drive but no HDMI port or upgrading to a Mini with a HDMI port but no optical drive) does OWC have an external optical drive they recommend (perhaps one with Blu-Ray) or should I just get a MacBook Air SuperDrive?

        • Can say that there’s good potential…

On the optical drive issue….the MBA SuperDrive will let you play a DVD movie externally with Plug and Play ease. That drive has been out for a while now. Not so for other brand opticals and ability to immediately play DVD movies. But can use VLC to accomplish same thing. Just depends on how much configuring you are comfortable with.

  • The article says:

    OWC 4GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory Kit (2 x 4GB matched memory modules) – $38.97 or as low as $34.99 after OWC offered factory 2 x 1GB memory trade-in rebate.

I’m pretty sure that you meant to say:

(2 x 2GB matched memory modules) instead of (2 x 4GB matched memory modules), which is what you did say.
