iMac Late 2013 Teardown Gallery

While the layout remains the same, the internal architecture has changed on the 21-inch iMac Late 2013 model from the previous version. The PCI bus for an SSD card is now present on the base model where it was not even included in the last model. So there’s hope for adding an SSD to models that did not originally come with one.

Update: 27″ iMac teardown photos have now been added to the gallery.

  • Given the new PCIE SSD interface, should I buy the Aura SSD that’s used in the new Mackbook Pro? Apple still doesn’t offer a standard config with Fusion or SSD. I’m looking at buying the 27″ 3.4GHz model for $1999 and adding your 240GB Aura to create a Fusion drive. The machines are so fast now that they’re completely I/O bound by the speed of storage.

Am I on the right track?

  • Could you run a GeekBench test? I’m wondering what the performance difference is between the late 2012 models. Cool teardown by the way!
