OWC was saddened to learn earlier today of the passing of Patrick J. McGovern, founder of International Data Group (IDG). IDG, which publishes Macworld, TechHive, Greenbot, Computerworld, Techworld and PCWorld, is naturally reeling from the loss of McGovern, 76.
“IDG has lost a true visionary, and the IT community has lost one of its most exceptional citizens,” said newly elected IDG board chairman, Walter Boyd. “Pat’s foremost desire was for IDG to make the world a better place through the medium of information technology. He created a unique workplace where we have the outstanding leadership team in place to ensure that the company he created will continue to grow and prosper.”
OWC has a long-standing relationship with IDG, both as advertisers and beneficiaries of the knowledge shared by its publications, especially Macworld. IDG is also producer of the annual Macworld/iWorld trade show that focuses on the Apple products.
“We here at OWC are deeply saddened to hear the news of Pat McGovern’s passing,” said Larry O’Connor, OWC founder and CEO. “Pat was truly a pioneer in the industry and his presence will be missed.”
According to Macworld.com, information about a memorial service will be posted soon. For those that want to offer condolences and remembrances, please visit www.idg.com or email rememberingpatmcgovern@idg.com.
