Apple’s watchOS 2 Is Now Available to Install

watchOS 2 arrives

Apple Watch owners — it’s finally happened. After a delayed launch, watchOS 2 has arrived.

Last week we gave you full instructions on how to update to watchOS 2 when it showed up — those instructions can be found here.

The update brings a big array of improvements with it. Animated photo watch faces arrive — built-in, and those Live Photos you’ll be shooting with your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus later in the week. Third-party watch complications bring data to your watch face from your favorite apps, while Time Travel lets you scroll through weather forecasts or upcoming appointments using the Digital Crown.

The biggest change is the arrival of native Watch apps, providing improved speed and responsiveness. No longer do apps need to rely on an iPhone being nearby.

Get your update done, then tell us how you’re liking the new features.

  • OK… nothing is working the way it should IMO. So I unpaired the watch and iPhone after removing the watch from its charger, and then powered it OFF and then back ON. I then tried using the viewfinder method for pairing and this did not work.

I think its time to call AppleCare Watch Tech help line….. this was not a good experience at all.

  • OK… so I disconnected the iPhone from its lightening cable and then selected the “My Watch” app and then selected General->Software Update and ipHone displayed “Checking for Update…” with a trailing rotating cog wheel. Eventually the iPhone displayed “Could Not Connect to Apple Watch”. The iPhone indicated my watch was PAIRED. When selecting General->Apple ID I could not sign in as the rotating cog wheel simply spun all the time and eventually “Could Not Connect to Apple Watch” displayed again. Boo hiss…. what the heck is going on I ask ?

  • I’m going to give this update another few minutes and then will leave the watch on its charger but disconnect my iPhone from its lightening cable that is connected to my MacBook Pro to see if the iPhone subsequently still wants to do its watch update thing. My patience has run out waiting.

  • The Bluetooth flashing occurs every 3 to 4 seconds and flashes maybe 5 to 6 times. Very weird if you ask me.

  • The Bluetooth icon on the iPhone flashes now and then. Is this an indication the installation of the new software is still underway ?

  • Well, now I’m puzzled. The watch appears to be fully operational yet the iPhone still shows “Installing…” and further “Do not restart Apple Watch or remove it from its charger.”. Hmmm…. Just how long should I wait as maybe the iPhone is somehow constipated/stuck ?

  • So the watched finally showed its clock face and I thought the update was done… BUT no it was not. The watch face went black and the iPhone displayed “Installing…” still. This update process is very tedious and there should be a little more feedback indicating the update is in progress at all times until completed.

  • During the watch update my iPhone 6+’s Bluetooth icon was flashing on and off for a while…. wonder what all that was about ?

  • First… get your grammar correct… The beginning sentence “The update brings an big array of improvements…” should be “…brings a big array…”. The word “an” goes infant of a word that starts with a vowel or sounds like a vowel. Just a nudge and not meant to be overly critical.

The Watch update is very slow… and so far mine is almost done after some 35 minutes.

I was was understanding that the new update would provide a night time clock such that the watch can somehow be placed on its side on the charger with its face facing you…. and maybe one can set a wake up alarm…. but dunno until the new update completes. :D

The “Installing…” is sure taking a long time with the watch showing its large cog progress going full circle TWICE so far.

    • “infant” should have been “in front”…. Safari’s auto spelling is quite wonky at times. :-;
