OWC Partners with We Make Movies on The Orphaned Starfish Foundation 2020 Fundraising Gala

“Inspiration and hope are what drives the future. We’re really here to see everyone maximize their potential.”

Larry O’Connor, CEO Founder, OWC.

The Orphaned Starfish Foundation—in partnership with We Make Movies (WMM)—is holding their annual gala this year on Friday, October 23rd, at 8 PM EST. Entitled You Are Not Alone, the event will be held virtually. The money raised will help support over 15,000 orphans, victims of abuse, survivors of trafficking, indigenous communities, refugees, and at-risk youth that OSF serves in countries all over the world. They do this by providing technology education, building technology centers, and operating training programs so that students may transition to higher education and employment opportunities.

“We Make Movies is teaching kids from under-resourced communities how to take the camera in your pocket and become a professional filmmaker,” says Sam Mestman, CEO/Co-Founder WMM. OWC has partnered with We Make Movies to make it possible for OSF students to tell their stories.

OWC has proudly donated lasting filmmaking equipment and gear, such as used Macs and storage solutions. They also provided funds for the additional camera and media needed to support WWM programs all over the United States – including Acoma, New Mexico; White Earth Reservation, Minnesota; Potawatomi Nation, Kansas; and Akwesasne, New York. These are communities that have never before been able to share their experience visually. The idea is to allow youth from diverse backgrounds access to artistic expression, technology, education, and gainful employment.

“This program is allowing people from any financial situation to sit down, edit, and tell their stories,” says Terri Morgan, Co-Founder, LumaTouch, one of the corporate donors.

Make a Difference

There are four levels of sponsorship—silver, gold, platinum, and diamond. At $50,000, diamond sponsors will have an OSF computer center named after them, in addition to other perks. All of the proceeds from the gala will go towards the OSF programming. You can learn more at https://www.osf.org/gala.
