Learning to mix live audio is both art and science. Packing up your mixing rig and taking your show on the road adds even more challenges to the mix.
Of course, that’s what Jam in the Van (JITV) does five days a week on their popular YouTube channel. JITV showcases bands in remote locations across the U.S. from their solar-powered mobile recording studio.
Since the channel debuted in 2011, Jam in the Van has featured more than 1,000 bands playing live in the van. So Jam in the Van turns their growing fan base of 407,000 subscribers on to new bands each week.
On February 3, JITV mixing engineer Sean P. Jones will present “Dissecting the Mix,” an in-depth mixing tutorial presented in conjunction with OWC. Featuring L.A.-based singer/guitarist Bluhauz, the tutorial will give viewers an inside look at how Sean and the JITV team mix live sessions.
OWC gear in the mix
“Quality content needs quality solutions,” Sean says. “We use OWC to ensure the fastest, most reliable transfer speeds and storage solutions.” Everything fans will hear in “Dissecting the Mix” will be “mixed live using OWC SSD drives.”
“Dissecting the Mix” is the sixth installment of Jam in the Van’s mixing tutorial series produced with OWC. “We find OWC’s products to be extraordinary in terms of speed and durability. They complement our unique studio, and our dedication to top-quality live sound perfectly,” says Jake Cotler, who co-founded Jam in the Van in 2011 with partners Dave Bell and Louis Peek.
