Haptic Feedback, Barrel Roll Make New Apple Pencil Pro a More Versatile Stylus

With the launch of the incredible new iPad Pro models, Apple has introduced a new Apple Pencil that packs much more technology to expand the versatility of this stylus in meaningful new ways.

The new Apple Pencil Pro features a new sensor in the barrel of the stylus that allows users to call up on-screen menus and tool palettes with a quick squeeze of the Pencil. Depending on the app, a squeeze of the pencil will allow you to quickly switch tools, line weights, colors and more.

The squeeze and these selections are enhanced not only by the hover feature that Apple enabled with the Apple Pencil 2, but also a new custom haptic engine that delivers a light tap to provide confirmation.

The new Pencil Pro also features a gyroscope inside to enable a new Barrel Roll feature. Rotating the barrel enables you to change the orientation of shaped pen and brush tools just as you would with a real pen or pencil on paper.

Another welcome improvement is that Apple Pencil Pro can now be found through the Find My app should you misplace it.

Pricing and availability

The new Apple Pencil Pro is available now for $129. It is compatible only with the new M2 iPad Air models and the new M4 iPad Pro models.
