Apple Announces “Awe Dropping” iPhone 17 Event

Though leaks of the next generation iPhones have been prevelant for months now, we’ll get our first official look at the iPhone 17 models two weeks from today.

Apple today announced its next product event, titled “Awe Dropping,” will take place Tuesday, September 9.

What is Apple Announcing at its “Awe Dropping” Event?

This event will focus on the unveiling of Apple’s latest iPhones and Apple Watch models. Here’s what to expect to see from each lineup:

New iPhone 17 Models: Air Comes to iPhone

During the event, we’ll get our first official look at the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and according to rumors, an all new model: the iPhone 17 Air.

Though the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models are all rumored to be mostly updates to the devices’ performnace and internals, the iPhone 17 Air is a new ultrathin design. According to 9to5Mac, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a display slightly smaller than the iPhone 16 Plus that it will ultimately replace in the lineup.

Apple is also expected to unveil a replacement for its controversial FineWoven iPhone cases. FineWoven replaced leather cases among Apple’s official case options. However, the material did not go over well with customers as it wore and stained easily and ungracefully. Apple quietly retired the material from its lineup, but rumors say it has formulated a replacement called “TechWoven.”

Apple is also rumored to be working on a bumper style case for the iPhone 17 Air that would be similar in design to the iPhone 4 bumper cases of old.

Apple Watch

Apple is also expected to release two new Apple Watch Models, the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. It’s unclear if there will be new designs for these watches, but the updates are most likely to center around performance and features.

AirPods Pro 3?

There’s also a chance that Apple finally updates its AirPods Pro 2 models with a new AirPods Pro 3 model.

How to Watch the Apple iPhone 17 Event

The event will start September 9 at 1 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET and you can watch on the AppleTV app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You’ll also be able to watch the event on YouTube.
