Apple Music Now Lets You “Pin” Your Favorites. Here’s How

If your Apple Music library is anything like mine, it’s always growing. New albums, new playlists, a couple “I’ll totally listen to this later” saves… and suddenly the stuff you actually play every day is buried behind a lot of good intentions.

That’s why the new pinning feature in Apple Music is such a welcome quality-of-life upgrade. Apple Music now lets you pin up to six items—like a favorite playlist, album, or artist—so they stay parked right at the top of the Library tab for fast access.

Here’s how to pin (and manage) your music on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

What you can pin (and where it shows up)

With pinned items in Apple Music, you can pin a mix of items—up to six total—and they’ll appear at the top of the Library tab in the Music app. Your pinned items will also show up in CarPlay and you can even enable a pinned items widget in the latest version of CarPlay.

You can pin things like:

  • Playlists
  • Albums
  • Artists
  • Songs (and music videos)

One important catch: Apple notes you can only pin content that’s already been added to your Library.

How to pin music in Apple Music on iPhone and iPad (iOS/iPad OS 26)

Pinning is pretty simple: find something in your Library, then long-press and choose Pin.

Pin a playlist, album, artist, or song

  1. Open the Music app.
  2. Tap Library.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Playlist: touch and hold the playlist (or open it, tap the More button), then tap Pin Playlist.
    • Album: touch and hold an album (or open it, tap More), then tap Pin Album.
    • Artist: go to the artist page, tap More, then tap Pin Artist.
    • Song / Music Video: touch and hold a song/video (or tap More next to it), then tap Pin.
  4. Head back to Library and you’ll see your pinned items at the top.

Tip: You can also pin the currently playing track from Now Playing via the More (…) button.

How to unpin (and clean up) your pins

If you change your mind—or you hit the six-pin limit—unpinning is quick:

  1. Go to Music → Library.
  2. Touch and hold a pinned item.
  3. Tap Unpin.

Apple also provides an Edit Pins option (via the More button in Library) that lets you remove pins from a list view.

Customize what happens when you tap a pin

This is the part that makes pins feel extra polished: you can set a Tap Action for each pinned item—so tapping it can open the page, or jump straight into playback (including shuffle).

To set it up:

  1. Go to Music → Library.
  2. Touch and hold a pinned item.
  3. Tap Tap Action, then choose what you want (like Go to…, Play, or Shuffle).

Once you choose Play or Shuffle, Music even shows an icon next to the pin so you know what it’ll do at a glance.

How to pin music on your Mac (Music app)

  1. Open the Music app on your Mac.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Playlist: Control-click a playlist in the sidebar → Pin Playlist
    • Album: go to Albums, Control-click an album → Pin Album
    • Artist: go to Artists, open an artist, click More → Pin Artist

Bonus: pin music on Apple Music on the web

If you sometimes use Apple Music at work or on a shared computer, pinning is available on the web too:

  • Go to music.apple.com, use the More button on an item, then choose Pin (playlist/artist/album/song).
  • You can also drag pins in the sidebar to reorder them.
