VIDEO TEST: M1 Air Beats 16-inch MacBook Pro

Over two weeks of hands-on experience with the M1-powered MacBook Air has taught me one important lesson: never judge the capabilities of a computer by its size. What prompted writing this article? A Universal version of the Blackmagic Disk Speed...

Thunderbolt on the M1 Mac mini – When 2 Actually Does Equal 4

I have read a lot of complaints about the new M1 based Macs only having two Thunderbolt ports. Having only two ports doesn't seem like enough for professional use. Both my 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro and my 2018 Mac mini have four Thunderbolt ports, and I can't imagine using a Mac with only two. But then again, maybe two is enough...

Why Are The Memory Options So Limited on Apple’s New M1 Macs?

The title of this post raises an interesting question. There has been some chatter from people complaining that the new M1 Macs from Apple have lower memory options available than their Intel counterparts. But I have also seen folks say that perhaps memory works differently or is more efficient with an SoC architecture. So, what gives?

M1 MacBook Air: Benchmarks and Hands-On Review

Apple's MacBook Air has always taken the back seat to the much more powerful MacBook Pro, but a look at the newest MBA powered by Apple's M1 System-on-Chip shows that the thin and light notebook can now claim the title of "speed demon" as well.

Read This Before Buying a 2020 27-inch iMac to Save Big!

There's no doubt about it. As we noted in an earlier post, Apple's new 27-inch iMac 5K for 2020 is a beast of a machine. With 10-core availability, all Solid State Drives, True Tone Retina display with a nano-texture glass option, faster GPU, T2 chip security, and up to 128 GB of RAM, you may finally be ready to make the leap into a new machine. It's completely understandable. But before you do, do yourself a favor and consider the one thing that is still user-upgradable after your purchase: the memory.

MAJOR UPDATE: Apple’s New 27-Inch iMac Goes All Out for 2020

Yesterday, August 5, 2020, Apple made a major update to the 27-inch iMac -- probably the last update that the venerable big-screen Mac will receive in its current incarnation. Future iMacs may feature a new design and will most certainly use Apple Silicon rather than the Intel CPUs found in the current model.

VIDEO: Unboxing and Taking a First Look Inside the 2019 Mac Pro

We are hard at work filming the unboxing of the New Mac Pro, but I thought we could at least start posting a few pictures to hold you over. Keep your eyes on this page – we'll continue to update this post with photos as Alex and Brady enjoy their new toy, and when finished, the video will find it's home here as well. Expect a complete teardown in the next few days!

Is the 16-inch MacBook Pro User-Upgradable?

Apple has been steadily moving away from products that users can upgrade themselves. This has been especially true with its lineup of MacBooks – they have been working to make them thinner, lighter, and more compact for years. In fact, parts have been soldered directly to the board in MacBook Pros since 2012. But since we have seen Apple once again implement user-accessible options in the new 2019 Mac Pro, might we get lucky with the new 16-inch MacBook Pro and a return to the glory days of DIY?
