UPDATE: Check out the Rocket Yard’s complete Remote Play how-to guide here!
Sony announced today on its blog that it would officially bring the PlayStation 4 Remote Play capability to Macs and PCs on April 6 with its major software update.
Along with the version 3.50 software update will come new social features and the long-promised Remote Play functionality. Remote Play lets gamers play their PlayStation 4 games from anywhere in their home on another screen (such as a Mac) as long as the PS4 and the secondary device are connected to Wi-Fi. However, in order to play, the Mac must have OS X Yosemite or later installed.
You can use a DualShock 4 as the controller for Remote Play, but it needs to be connected to your Mac via a USB cable. You will be able to choose from a selection of resolution and frame rate options, depending on your Internet bandwidth, according to Sony. After the system software update launches, you’ll be able to download the Remote Play Installer here. (Note: The download is not yet available).
Previously Remote Play was offered only on the PlayStation Vita, Sony’s handheld gaming device, and certain Sony tablets and smartphones. But with more options now available, fewer battles of TV screen time are expected to be had.
And while Remote Play won’t be available until tomorrow on Macs, you can ensure your PlayStation 4 has plenty of storage for additional gaming sessions today with the OWC DIY 2.0TB Drive Upgrade Bundle for up to 4x more space than the stock drive.
And if you’re looking for a Mac to play on, MacSales.com has a wide selection of Used Macs to choose from.
