Welcome to this edition of OWC in the Press: News and Reviews, where we showcase some of the latest headlines and most helpful articles from publications across the globe. This week we have some fantastic pieces from Rolling Stone, Tech Advisor, PC World, Mac Rumors, Gstyle, and CNET.
Rolling Stone:
Don’t Leave Important Data On Discs: Make Backups With These External DVD Drives
“If your main concerns are speed and performance, OWC’s Mercury Pro is the best external DVD drive you can get right now. The drive can read DVDs and non-4K Blu-Ray discs at speeds of up to 16X. We’ve used this drive to rip (digitize) both types of discs, and were seriously impressed by its consistency. Bus-powered external DVD drives are convenient, but rarely reach their top speeds because of power constraints. OWC’s Mercury Pro transferred data more quickly and reliably.”

Tech Advisor:
Best Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 cables
“OWC makes quality accessories, targeted especially at users of Apple products. Its Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 cable is universal and certified by Intel, but available only at a length of 0.8 metres. It has a three-year guarantee, and is compatible with USB-C, Thunderbolt 3 and, of course, Thunderbolt 4.”

PC World:
The first USB4 products are here: What to know, what to buy
“As you shop, pay close attention to the product names, which more often than not will include “Thunderbolt 4” or “USB4” as handy cues. However, it will never hurt to skim the specs to confirm their compatibility. For example, we received an early sample of the OWC Thunderbolt 4 dock. The USB4 brand label appears nowhere on the packaging. Instead, OWC includes this note in the specifications: “Compatible with USB3, USB4, and Thunderbolt 3 and later devices.”

Mac Rumors:
OWC’s Envoy Pro FX is an Ultra Fast, Expensive Portable SSD for Macs
“The Envoy Pro FX is excellent, but pricey. If you want ultra-fast read/write speeds, this drive has certainly earned my stamp of approval; however, if you are simply looking for a drive to store your Time Machine backups, then it would be more economical to consider a basic 1TB hard drive for around a quarter of the price of the Envoy Pro FX, or a non-Thunderbolt SSD as a good middle ground in terms of price and speed.”

Gstyle:
OWC USB-C Travel Dock E Adds Gigabit Ethernet and Extra Ports to Any Laptop
“The OWC USB-C Travel Dock E works great with Mac and PC, but it can also work for iOS and iPadOS devices, as well as Android and Chrome OS devices. I tested it out with a Samsung Galaxy S21 and it works perfectly with Dex. With that said, this is a great little travel dock for those who need extra ports on the go or for those who need an Ethernet Port if their laptop doesn’t have one, which these days, is almost every new laptop out there.”

CNET:
Intel’s Thunderbolt pushes into mainstream as faster alternative to USB
“Thunderbolt’s advantages will persist over USB, predicts Larry O’Connor, the chief executive of Other World Computing, which makes peripherals using both USB and Thunderbolt. “I believe USB will be the step-down, more consumer-grade interface,” O’Connor said. “Thunderbolt [will provide] the higher-end capability and reliability.”
