Today’s 4K video workflows are demanding. External hard drives for video production need more than just a high capacity for massive files. They also need to be powerful, quiet, and secure.
The OWC ThunderBay 4 is a multimedia workhorse that captures the best of all of those worlds and will help you take your video production projects to new heights.
Your editing capabilities in video apps such as Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and Avid Media Composer will immediately feel the power of the ThunderBay 4’s dual Thunderbolt 2 ports. Whether you need to transfer uncompressed footage or support for multi-stream compressed 4K video, with sustained data rates up to 1,342 MB/s, the ThunderBay 4 is up to any task.
The ThunderBay 4’s dual Thunderbolt 2 ports also bring elite flexibility allowing users to adapt to any workflow and add vast amounts of high-performance storage by daisy-chaining up to five additional devices, plus one high-resolution display.
RAID 5: The Complete Package
With the ThunderBay 4 RAID 5 Edition, you can add the benefit of the first and only software RAID 5 technology developed for the Mac. RAID 5 will let you merge the four drives for huge performance gains over a single drive, the combined capacity of three of the drives, and data redundancy that allows the array to still work even if one drive fails. Only OWC can combine the massive performance and capacity of ThunderBay 4 with a software RAID engine to provide a stunning combination of performance, flexibility, and reliability.
Quite simply, it’s simply quiet
OWC’s time-tested enclosure cooling technology allows the ThunderBay 4 to utilize an open “flow-thru” vented design with an oversized 92 mm, low-turbulence, noise-quieting fan to keep the drives running cool and reliably. In addition, the ThunderBay’s drive isolating design reduces sonic resonance, and is aided by over-sized, rugged, vibration-absorbing, non-skid feet. The ThunderBay quietly does its job leaving you to do yours.

Hello Frank,
In the Thunderbay 4, you will be able to use different size drives. The only way you are able to accomplish this is by running each drive individually (JBOD).
Can I mix drives of different capacity in
the OWC Thunderbay4. eg 2 X 2Tb and 2X 4Tb.
ie can I slowly increase the storage capacity by replacing individual drives.
