Star Wars fans had to wait 16 years after the original trilogy for Episode I’s release in 1999. They had to wait another 10 years after the second trilogy ended for “The Force Awakens” to be released in 2015.
Fortunately, the decade-plus waiting for new Star Wars big-screen action is a thing of the past, and we can now expect a new Star Wars movie every year or so … time will tell if this is a good thing or not.
In either case, less than 365 days after “The Force Awakens” was released, we will get the next Star Wars film titled “Rogue One”. And while it’s still more than eight months away, Disney has released the first trailer for the new movie.
A surprising amount is unveiled in the teaser which follows the ‘rebellious’ main character Jyn Erso. Here’s a brief synopsis of the movie: “Following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a wayward band of Rebel fighters come together to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s rule.”
If this doesn’t sound particularly exciting to you, don’t worry, you’ll only have to wait a year or so for the next in what will likely be a very long line of Star Wars movies.
Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards and set for a Dec. 16, 2016 release.
