After the anticipated arrival of iOS 11 last week, Apple now turns its attention to macOS High Sierra. Version 10.13 of the desktop operating system will be available to users today. As with iOS 11, download availability will come in waves so not all users will have access simultaneously.
Here is a list of Macs that will run macOS High Sierra, according to Apple:
- MacBook (Late 2009 or Later)
- iMac/iMac Pro (Late 2009 or Later)
- MacBook Air (2010 or Later)
- MacBook Pro (2010 or Later)
- Mac mini (2010 or Later)
- Mac Pro (2010 or Later)

Happy upgrading!
Hi, im currently booting from an Accelsior E2 and when updating to Sierra it didn’t change to APFS. Is that normal? is it supported?
Cool! Since the update to High Sierra, my aura drive has now been properly recognised as internal! In Sierra, it always showed up as external (understand that was an OS X limitation at the time).
MBA Mid 2013 with 480 GB Aura SSD. Got the dreaded “problem with firmware” error. Still boots, but not updated.
is a refurbished mac pro mc373ll/a with os 10.6 (2010)a good choice for personal use & will it support an hp printer with usb cable to replace a 2007 HP windows vista pc noyebook?
Are owc aura ssd compatible with high sierra?
Yes. OWC says yes and I upgraded without issues.
So far so good….
no- aura ssds are NOT compatible with apfs file system- either you get a warning on installation that ‘installation failed due to a firmware…” or, worse, if you do get the installation to proceed with a few ‘recommended ‘ workarounds, some of which are suggested by owc, you end up with a corrupted or unusable ssd- owc now recommends ‘replacing the aura with the original ssd’ if you want to install High Sierra and apfs on a former aura pro system, then putting the aura back in, and clone the ORIGINAL ssd to the aura ssd, presumably from the external enclosure they sent (that doesn’t work- I did that and after ten tries, finally gave up)- owc needs to give us a firmware upgrade or our money back!
Money back is not an outrageous request. This issue has existed with the Aura for months through the beta and nothing has been done.
I don’t have my original Apple SSD so that “workaround” is an unacceptable one. It seems the Aura is incompatible… period (with no fix through the beta period and no timeline to a fix now). If OWC can’t ensure compatibility, then yes, a refund should be offered. Especially during the warranty period.
If an Apple SSD IS in fact the only workable solution, then OWC should have a loaner program in place for people who no longer have them. They loan one (shipping INCLUDED) for 2 weeks with a credit card hold. You don’t send it back, you’re billed.
Aura SDD drive’s are compatible, but I could not convert to AFS.
I upgraded to High Sierra without issues on a 2015 MacBook Air with a 1TB Aura drive installed. The drive did not convery to APFS and performance is slightly slower. I no longer have the original drive. Any word from OWC on this?
How are they compatible when so many people are getting firmware check errors preventing the upgrade?
I don’t know…..I can’t answer that question for you. I was able to upgrade to High Sierra and am running it now.
Apple File System is something completely different.
I asked OWC tech support about this a couple of weeks ago (specifically about converting mine to APFS). I was told that they were still being tested and to watch this blog.
Although the Aura SSD can run High Sierra, it is unable to convert to AFS.
which Macs are compatible with
– Metal 2?
– new continuity features?
any other features that require newer Macs than the base Mac you can install HS on?
Before I update, is there any information for those of us using a Data Doubler with an SSD boot drive and the home folder located on the HDD?
ask apple or the vendor of data doubler etc.
OWC is the vendor – That’s why I asked here. Apple has no answer for non-factory modifications.
