Flag Serves As Reminder Of Service

With the holidays now passed, many of us are reflecting on the time that we were fortunate enough to be able to spend with friends and family. But we should also keep in mind those who are unable to be with their loved ones because of their military service to our country.

As a reminder of those serving, Other World Computing has received a flag that was flown during Operation Enduring Freedom over Observation Post Nevada in Asadabad, Afghanistan on Dec. 7, 2011 in honor of Specialist Roberto Santiago of the Woodstock-based Delta Company 1-178 Infantry. The flag now will be flown at OWC Headquarters in Woodstock, Ill.

OWC has supported many units, including Delta Company 1-178 Infantry, over the years with care packages containing food, personal care items, messages of encouragement and even softball equipment for recreational use.

“We can see the pride [OWC has] in the flag, and we’re glad to be a part of that, especially with the support we’ve had from OWC over the years,” said Sgt. 1st Class Bill P. Hornbeck, Delta Company, 1-178 Infantry. Hornbeck presented the flag to OWC Logistical/Security Manager Larry O’Connor Sr.

Other World Computing keeps flags it has received in the past displayed in the OWC front lobby as a permanent reminder of the continued service and sacrifices of our troops.
