Do You Need a New Mac, iPhone, or iPad to Run Apple Intelligence?

If you’re eager to start using and benefiting from Apple’s new AI-powered Apple Intelligence features, but you’re not so keen on throwing down a huge chunk of change on a new Mac, don’t worry! Apple Intelligence is compatible with many previous generation Mac devices as well. New-to-you M-Series Macs are an incredible value, providing huge performance at lower prices.

The Apple platform with the least compatible devices is the iPhone as we’ll cover in the next section. But users of iPads and Macs powered by M1 chips and above are good to go. Here’s how Apple Intelligence compatibility breaks down.

Which Apple Devices Can Run Apple Intelligence?

iPhone

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max

iPad

iPad Pro and select iPad Air models runing the following Apple Silicon chips:

  • M1
  • M2
  • M4

Mac

iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro with any of the following Apple Silicon chips:

  • M1
  • M2
  • M3
  • M4

What do I need to do to enable Apple Intelligence features on my compatible device?

To make sure you’re getting the latest and greatest Apple Intelligence features, you’ll want to make sure you’re running the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Currently those are iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2. Each of these OS versions feature the latest Apple Intelligence features.

To enable Apple Intelligence features on your device, you’ll need to open the Settings app on your device and then select Apple Intelligence & Siri, then select Get Apple Intelligence.
