‘Becoming Steve Jobs’ Available Now, Promises to Separate the Myth from the Man

Cover of "Becoming Steve Jobs" hardback

Not long after Apple co-founder Steve Jobs passed away in October of 2011, the officially-sanctioned biography of the man titled “Steve Jobs” was published. Written by famed biographer Walter Isaacson, the book was a bestseller and a disappointment to many longtime Apple watchers who felt that the book simply reiterated the same myths about Jobs. Nearly four years later, a new biography has been published: “Becoming Steve Jobs” by Brent Schlender and Fast Company executive editor Rick Tetzeli.

The book has been touted recently by executives at Apple who worked with Jobs, and it’s quite different from the official biography by Isaacson. Brent Schlender is a long-time tech journalist who was a close friend of Jobs, and the fact that Schlender wanted to clear some of the misconceptions about Jobs endeared him to the executive staff. Tim Cook, who called the Isaacson biography a “tremendous disservice,” agreed to be interviewed by the duo for the new book.

According to Apple PR representative Steve Dowling, “We decided to participate in Brent and Rick’s book because of Brent’s long relationship with Steve, which gave him a unique perspective on Steve’s life. The book captures Steve better than anything else we’ve seen, and we are happy we decided to participate.” The book is available for $11.99 on Kindle or $19.83 in hardback at, for $12.99 through the iBookstore, and $30 at many bookstores.
