New AirPods 5 Deliver Redesigned Audio, Improved Active Noise Cancellation

Apple’s standard, open-ear design AirPods are back and better than ever—and with a new lower starting price.

The new AirPods 5 have been completely reengineered with revamped audio and a more durable design. The new buds also have a new multiport acoustic architecture inspired by AirPods Pro 3. Apple says AirPods 5 feature next-generation Adaptive EQ to “deliver richer, more detailed sound across an even wider range of ear geometries.

Plus, Apple says AirPods 5 now feature the best active noise cancellation (ANC) of any open ear buds on the market with 50% more noise reduction than the AirPods 4 with ANC. Apple notes that as a result of the reengineered audio and ANC, transparency mode has also improved with clearer audio while adaptive mode seamlessly switches between transparency and ANC based on your environment.

The company is also bringing its Apple Intelligence-powered live translation feature to AirPods 5.

AirPods 5 start at $129 but a $149 model will also be available that includes a wireless charging case, longer battery life, and on-stem volume controls.

Pre-orders for AirPods 5 start today and availability will begin September 18.
