Apple has launched its 27.2 update across each of its OS platforms and this is a fairly significant one for a number of reasons. The biggest is that Siri AI, the new-and-improved version of Siri that launched with the iOS, iPadOS, and macOS 27 release just over a month ago, is getting even more capable with 27.2.
Here’s how Siri AI is improving across your devices, followed by a few other additions on each platform worth knowing about.
Siri AI Gets Smarter Across Your Devices
Much of the utility of having an assistant—be it a real person assisting you or an AI—is having someone helping you keep track of what needs to be done and what has already been accomplished. The context matters. After all, an assistant wouldn’t be very useful if you had to start every conversation from scratch. And that’s the main improvement in the 27.2 updates: Siri AI now has better memory and an increased amount of context to draw from when you present it with a question or task.
For starters, Siri can now recall earlier conversations, letting you revisit something you previously discussed without having to rebuild the entire request to remind Siri of everything that happened before. It can also consult more of your information: images sent through Messages, the people attending Calendar events, and voicemail. Apple has also improved results drawn from Safari browsing history and your Reading List.
There are also improvements on interacting with Siri on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch to know about:
On iPhone: More Control Over Siri’s Answers And Access
Alongside those shared upgrades to Siri AI, iOS 27.2 now lets you copy selected portions of a Siri response. An Excluded Apps setting also consolidates control over which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions may access. Apple’s release notes list Siri AI support for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max and all iPhone 16 models and later.
On iPad: Ask Siri About Text Faster
iPadOS 27.2 adds a particularly handy way to reach Siri when using a mouse or trackpad. Select text and a Siri icon appears; hover over it to begin typing a question about the selection. It brings an existing Mac interaction to iPad, shortening the path from reading something to asking about it.
On Apple Watch: Less Waiting For Siri to Answer
Finally, after a lot of negative reaction to how slow using Siri was on watchOS 27, Apple says using Siri after the watchOS 27.2 update is much faster.
What Else Is New in 27.2?
iOS
The iPhone update also includes conversation-based action suggestions in Messages, separate areas for new and unfinished episodes in Podcasts, and individual Apple TV profiles. Plus, Shared Albums in Photos gain editable captions and comments, duplicate prevention, and expiration reminders.
You’ll also notice that Apple Music looks different. The app gets a new monochrome icon and refreshed styling. Group FaceTime gains simultaneous front- and rear-camera sharing, while compatible smart locks gain automatic locking after closing and alerts for doors left open.
iPhone Duo owners get two exclusive additions: Apple Pencil support on both displays and Edge Light, which illuminates the screen’s perimeter to help light your face during video calls. To use Apple Pencil with the Duo, you’ll need the Apple Pencil (USB-C) specifically. Apple Pencil Pro and other models aren’t supported. The Edge Light feature works with FaceTime and third-party apps such as Zoom.
MacOS
The Mac update adds Apple Music’s black-and-white icon and gesture-recognition tools in several built-in apps.
iPadOS
The iPad update brings the Messages action suggestions, Apple TV profiles, Group FaceTime Dual Capture, the refreshed Apple Music icon and styling, and changes to the Podcasts queue that we outlined earlier. Home adds controls for supported smart locks, while Books gets revised menus and easier bookmarking.
