A new feature reportedly coming in iOS 27 will allow iPhone users to share one phone number between two iPhones.
While the feature was quietly announced earlier this year at WWDC 2026, it has not shown up in any of the beta releases for iOS 27. However, pdfu, a member of the MacRumors forums, posted screenshots and video of how the feature will work after doing some digging inside the developer beta of iOS 27 and Apple’s support documentation.
MacRumors reports that you’ll setup iPhone Handoff under the Cellular menu in the Settings app. You’ll determine which iPhone will be your main iPhone and which will be the “companion” iPhone during this setup. The Apple documentation says that the main eSIM “will remain on the main iPhone while the companion iPhone will receive a companion eSIM, and this will enable you to switch between the devices back and forth while using the same phone number,” MacRumors reports.
All other cellular settings are managed on the main iPhone. Location sharing is determined by whichever iPhone is actively using the phone number. According to pdfu, the setup is smart enough to activate the eSIM and companion eSIM dynamically, based on which iPhone is unlocked.
The feature appears to require carrier support in order to work. Sharing your phone number with a cellular Apple Watch also requires specific carrier support and it sounds like this feature will work in a similar manner. The forum user was able to find mention of T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom in iOS 27 as potential partner carriers.
iOS 27 is set to release alongside new iPhones later this month.
