OWC Radio #55 – New iMacs, Locationgate, and the Data Capping Debate

The new iMacs are out and there’s so much we’ve been discovering. A firmware update unleashed 6Gb/s speeds on two of the SATA ports, then an interesting design choice essentially takes one way. A couple of programmers take advantage of a tracking oversight in iOS, but is it much ado about nothing? A debate begins over the official news about AT&T’s new data cap pricing structure that went into effect just a few days ago. Hear all the details about this news and more on this episode of OWC Radio.

OWC Radio is a monthly, forum-based podcast focused on the events and happenings in the Mac community. This week’s hosts are: OWC Grant, OWC Chris S., and OWC Mike H.

  • I fail to see any good technical reason for leaving any iMac “crippled” by reducing its capacities and capabilities.
Why on earth would Ap-ple do something so stupid as to voluntarily dumb down its machines?

  • Thanks for the breaking news on the iMac’s hard drive firmware. Hopefully there is an easy workaround.

  • Your killing me guys! It doesn’t have SATA III, it does have SATA III, only two of the three ports are SATA III, and now one of the remaining two ports are SATA III?

Tell me you are going to be able to still offer the SSD Turnkey program!

    • Well, we’ll definitely be continuing to offer or Turnkey Program for the 2010 models. As for the 2011’s, however, this may affect any planned offerings we may have had. There’s a more in-depth post coming on just this topic. Stay tuned!
