OWC Tests Speed of SSD in 2015 15” MacBook Pro with Retina Display

In addition to getting the new Force Touch trackpad, the new 15” MacBook Pro with Retina display also received faster PCIe-based flash storage, which Apple says is up to 2.5X faster than the previous generation.

After unboxing the new model, OWC has tested the new SSD in QuickBench 4.0. And as you can see, the speed lives up to Apple’s promise of faster storage with throughput up to 2GBps.

It is worth noting that unlike the 12” MacBook released earlier this year, which uses an Apple SSD, the 15” rMBP that OWC has tested uses a Samsung SSD. It also should be pointed out that the new 15” rMBP does not use the NVM Express SSD protocol. And rest assured that our own flash upgrade will be coming soon for this model as well :)
