Share the green, make a dream reality while golfing this Labor Day

If golf happens to be on your list of recreational activities during the extended weekend before us, you can perhaps make a dream a reality by sharing some green while on the greens.

During the fourth annual Patriot Golf Day, duffers of all skill levels (me…I’m like Happy Gilmore) across the country are asked to add an extra dollar to their greens fees to fund Folds of Honor scholarships.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Folds of Honor Foundation provides post secondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving in active duty.

In case you are unfamiliar with this event, the inaugural Patriot Golf Day occurred on Labor Day 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, F-16 Pilot, PGA Professional, and USGA member. Rooney asked golfers to add $1 to their greens fees which resulted in donations of more than $1.1 million from more than 3,200 golf facilities. In the last three years, golfers nationwide have been instrumental in raising more than $5.3 million for the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Higher education is arguably one of the hallmarks of the American dream…and the military men and women that served – many of them offering the ultimate sacrifice – did so to preserve that dream.

$1 isn’t asking too much to help make that dream a reality and honor a noble cause…in fact…while you’re at it, make it $2 for good measure.
