Microsoft Releases Internet Explorer Security Update

Globe-DIY-231x300

While we’re primarily Mac people here at OWC, we recognize that there are millions of Windows users out there (including Mac users who use Parallels to run Windows on their Mac or use Boot Camp to run it directly) and what’s good for one of us is good for all. So we wanted to pass along some useful security info for our Windows friends.

In case you missed it, last week Microsoft announced it had found a serious security flaw in Internet Explorer that created vulnerabilities that could be exploited by hackers. This particular vulnerability is in all versions of Internet Explorer from 6 through 11, and is serious enough that Homeland Security has even recommended against usage of IE.

Fortunately, Microsoft began rolling out a fix this afternoon, which will apply to Windows XP users as well – despite their decision to end support for the OS early last month. If you do not have automatic updates turned on, Microsoft recommends that you immediately begin the update by clicking the “Check for Updates” button on the Windows Update portion of your Control Panel.
